Padraig McCauls work is inspired by the beauty of the natural landscape and coastline of Ireland's west coast, the Wild Atlantic Way. He presents the Irish landscape in a series of colour filled, evocative images, where broad strokes are preferred to fine detail and where simple, uncluttered compositions allow room for the viewer to get lost in the paintings. houses, roads, farm buildings, country lanes, all feature strongly in his work.
He works with oil on canvas, using a single palette knife and brush to create his semi-abstract, colour filled paintings. Since moving to Achill with his family in 2012 McCaul's paintings of the west of Ireland have continued to evolve and now include more figurative work, sometimes based on, but always inspired by his own family.
